The Tea House ☕️🫖

In Asia, tea is a big deal. It’s served with almost every meal. Thailand is no different. There are lots of tea houses spread all over the city. Because there is a huge Japanese contingent that lives in Bangkok, Japanese tea is very popular. I would say the most popular is matcha green tea.

There is a small tea house located in one of the huge office buildings just off the skytrain line in a very busy part of town. This shop is called the Ksana Tea House. Ksana is a brand of matcha green tea imported from Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture in Japan. The word Ksana comes from Sanskrit, meaning a small period of time, or balance.

The shop is amazing. Japanese inspired tea houses are meant to be calming and quiet. They are places where you can sit and enjoy your tea in a tranquil environment. This particular tea house has been designed in a way that almost feels like being in a cloud. You float through the space. It provides a respite from the chaos that is the area around this part of Bangkok and in this he office complex.

The walls are made of fiberglass, molded with CNC foam, then molded, scraped, and decorated by hand. There are oak-colored tables and countertops that accentuate the black stone teacups and dessert plates, and additional speakers decorated with artificial flowers by a Japanese flower artist.

In my continuing coverage of design and architecture in Bangkok, this little tea house located in a giant glass skyscraper captures the essence of tasteful and fascinating design. And the green tea is also very nice.

  1. A very interesting and womblike space. Does it feel warm and calming. Fibreglass can be cold and not very tactile especially all white. But I guess it is offset by the warming effects of tea.

    • You’re right about fibreglass being cold and hard. However, I think you kind of forget that because of the uniqueness of the space. Perhaps if you were in the shop every day getting tea, the space might start feeling a bit cold. Mind you, in Bangkok, cold is not so bad. It is a pretty neat concept. It’s apparent what the design guys were striving for.
