The embarrassment continues…
The entry I posted earlier today was, I thought, the second to last. It was meant to be the pre-wrap up version. If you read it, you might have noticed the mention of our billboard campaign. I showed a photo of one of the new billboards advertising our acute care service. That was supposed to be that. However, after posting the entry, I was called to our geriatric care campus for a meeting, so off I went.
When I got to the meeting, I was told that about one week ago, a new Thai language version of the geriatric service website went live. I had not realized this. Would I like to see it? Sure, why not, I said. Smiles all around. The computer was plugged into a projector and the website then appeared on the giant screen. Oh my God – there I was on the front page and then on another page and then on another page. What!!!! I protested, but to no avail. Apparently, since the site has been up, the calls for bookings and reservations have gone up by about 200%, just in the last week. People apparently love the site. I was sure I would drive people away, but apparently this has not been the case. To get a sense of the flavour of the website, assuming you don’t want to look for yourself, there are some screen grabs from the site shown in the slide show above.
But that embarrassment was not enough. My colleagues reminded me about the latest billboard campaign. Yes, I mentioned that I had seen one of the new ones for the acute care business last night. There are more, I was told. Dear readers, you might remember the entry entitled, This Entry Should be Avoided. I described how I had made my first appearance on the expressways of Bangkok. Well, apparently I am back for more, as new billboards have now gone up. I was given some night shots of one of them, which is a full four storeys high. And then, I was taken for a short drive to see this particular billboard, which is absolutely huge. I took some photos which are shown above and a couple of short videos I took are embedded below.
This is all very embarrassing. I cannot believe they did this without telling me. I thought I had a copy-write or trademark on myself, but apparently I don’t.
So, it’s Billboard Boy meets Website Boy. Welcome to my world of self-conciousness.
Why not make it worse. Here are the videos:

Jaw-dropping!! At least “elderly services” is in smaller print!
Shall we move from “billboard boy” to “4 storey skip”? r
Jaw-dropping is a good description. 4 storey skip?? How about the 12 metre man??
LOL OMG
I got nuthin’. Just speechless!.
You seem all “too happy” being “examined” by that nurse! Soon you will not be able to go out in Bangkok without signing autographs!
Awesome….you look great!
Skip, you need to get an agent and some very cool shades to avoid your throngs of fans. The increase in inquiries to the geriatric service is clearly related to your dazzling 4 storey high image based across the city.
What can we say? I predicted you were a “star-in-waiting, a star-in-the-making… .” Whichever way you look at it, you clearly shine brightly in Bangkok. All of Thailand? Then people on the beaches will know you. International celebrity – not such a far stretch. Next highlight of your career!
April says, “Congratulations on your new fame!”
Thanks to all of you commenters. I am currently waiting for one of those amazing Bangkok based graffiti guys to do some touch ups or maybe even some full renovations of my billboards. Maybe sun glasses, a moustache or a different colour hospital gown. Work needs to be done. By the way, the nurse is just as embarrassed.
