This Visit’s Food Entry

The last post of every visit is always the tastiest

 

This is my last day in Bangkok, before returning to Toronto tomorrow morning.  It seemed like there was way more work during this trip.  There’s a lot going on at the various facilities and in the many programs be offered.  Based on tradition, the last post of every visit is the food entry.  This is an easy and short entry because the star of the show is the food that I have eaten during my stay.  Most of what I eat is prepared by the staff at the various hospital sites by Kluaynamthai chefs.  The food is always fantastic. It’s high end restaurant quality and you’d pay a lot for many of these meals.  I’ve said many times before that I wished Canadian hospitals took food preparation and presentation as seriously.  At our hospitals, the quality of the meals is as important as the professional care that’s provided to patients.

We are just in the final phases of opening up a very large kitchen that will be offering tasty and healthy packaged foods to grocery stores.  So our food business will continue to grow.  But the most important aspect of this service is ensuring that our patients get the best food possible and the photo essay above shows some of the dishes that they get everyday in their beds and in our restaurants.

Oh, wait, there’s one more thing and it’s related to food.  A colleague of mine who is on a government health and wellness committee showed me a video made by the government to highlight Thailand’s tourism industry.  The video is called Discover Amazing Stories : PADTHAI.  The idea behind the video is to use Thailand’s most famous dish as a way to introduce viewers to the country.  It’s a really well made video, is mostly about food and seemed like a tasty addition to this visit’s last entry.  Take a look at the video below.  It’s only a couple of minutes long and it will make you hungry for Pad Thai.

There’s still one more thing, on a non food note:  I wrote a piece the other day on the passport forgery gang that had the chopped up guy in the freezer.  It seems that even Canadian media has gotten interested in this story.  This article, in the National Post, has more information on the case, including the possible identity of the freezer guy.  It’s truly a global information world when a crime story in Bangkok gets pretty good coverage in Canada. And a story with a freezer as one of the main characters does have a somewhat tenuous link to this food blog entry.
