Bus Art

Let’s get that art work on the road

Way back in February of 2007, I had a short entry on crazy bus art.  Tourist buses in Thailand are totally off the chart in terms of outlandish paint jobs and sometimes hacks that add lights, weird fans, pulleys and lots of other stuff.

It turns out that using buses as canvases for art work is a pretty big deal in Thailand and some of the buses are just out of this world when it comes to paint jobs.  Check out this page that has some amazing photos of paint jobs on buses and then this one that includes an article on the artists who paint buses.  It turns out that painting buses in crazy colours and images is a big business here.

I bring this up because on my way to get something to eat the other night I saw this huge tourist bus sitting in traffic.  I couldn’t help but stop and take some photos.  Forget about the train art project that I wrote about a few days ago.  This bus is the real deal when it comes to traveling art work.  In addition to the paint job, there were weird fans and lights all over the place.  This was one cool traveling art machine.

We have two mobile clinic buses which are also decked out with nice paint jobs – the last slide above shows one of them – but we have nothing that compares to the bus in the photos or to the buses shown in the linked websites.  Like I said in 2007, maybe we should think about a more radical paint job for our clinic buses next time around.

    • I agree. Our bus doesn’t look like it’s about to get into a street fight. But I’m thinking that maybe next time we should have Dr. Look wear a cape. Oh, and maybe his stethoscope could become a kind of whip like Wonder Woman’s. But he could still look cute and accessible.
