It has occurred to me that I’ve not written specifically about Spirit Houses in the last couple of visits. That’s weird and strange and not like me as I’m a collector of Spirit House images and stories.
I’ve been talking a lot about new and interesting buildings and interior designs in Bangkok, but not a post about Spirit Houses.
This entry offers a remedy. During my last visit, while going around the city, I took photos of Spirit Houses that I had not seen before. As always, they are amazing, wonderful to look at and uniquely Thai.
Not all the houses look like traditional Spirit Houses as you’ll see in the photos. This makes things interesting, as all of them serve a clear purpose of protecting the occupants of their attached buildings. They do this in many ways.
There is, towards the end of the photo set above, a series of shots of one Spirit House taken at night. Getting good night shots of Spirit Houses is difficult as there is generally not enough light. But the shots of a Spirit House outside of a large hotel from slide 21 onward were taken at night. This hotel decided to add pretty good night lighting. Perhaps their Spirits liked to read in bed at night. Or maybe this group of Spirits are insomniacs and generally stay up very late. Or, being hotel Spirits, maybe they party at night. For whatever reason, this Spirit House had the lights turned up and made photo taking much easier.
So, this was an easy entry to write. Just a bunch of new Spirit Houses to look at and a bit of redemption for not talking about them in recent entries.

I love Spirit Houses but i think the simple ones best
The large ‘palace complex’ sized ones somehow seem weird to me
I like that their monthly operating costs much lower than ADT Security 🙄
Love the tour of the spirit houses. Still think you should do a picture album, maybe a fund raiser for a good cause. Thaks & keep safe love Hazel
They’re beautiful. Thanks for sharing them.
